With Jim Lombards permission, I have a copy
if the e-mail that was sent to him, bidding Michael Mahonen congratulations from the "Canadian Consulate General to New England" (I will not reveal e-mail address without proper permission) below.
James,
Thank you very much for thinking of inviting me, on behalf of the Consulate to join with you in celebrating the Gold Talon Award being given to Michael Mahonen on April 29.
I was delighted to hear of Michael being given this award, given my close interest in the pursuit of co-operation and exchange on both cultural and education areas between Canada and New England. I think the idea of creating this award is a fantastic one and take some pride that a distinguished Canadian will receive it this year.
I would be delighted if you could pass to Michael my congratulations on Monday on the occasion of the award ceremoney and luncheon.
Dean Sherratt
Consul (Politcal)
Canadian Consulate General to New England
Congratulations Mickey on receiving your
Special Thanks to Mr. Jim Lombard from Danvers High School for allowing me to scan Micheal Mahonen's award certificate. Mr. Lombard took the time to meet with my husband and me at the school, and talk about his, and the students, experience listening to Mickey and asking him questions about his career. He even showed us the inspiring video, which was made from the lecture.
At first I was a little shy about talking to Mr. Lombard (I had called the school one time before we met with him), because I wanted to respect Mickey's privacy. Mickey had shown much kindness to Kitty and me, when we met with him in Boston. I finally got the guts to call Mr. Lombard again, at the school, and we talked for about 20 minutes, about how his kids first told him about the actor, when they had watched him, as 'Gus Pike' on "Avonlea".
Mr. Lombard told us he picked Mickey up in a limo in Boston, which took him to Danvers High School...I'm glad he did, because in my opinion, Boston has this weird thing called "The Big Dig", which makes travelling in Boston kind of difficult. It's hard knowing whether you're going in or out of the city anymore. Maybe that's just judging the way my husband only drives into Boston, but at least it is better to be safe than sorry.
The seminar went very well, and the students had a lot of questions to ask him and he answered each and every one of them beautifully, judging by the video. After the seminar they went to the Sylvan Street Grille, where they presented the award. Mr. Lombard explained it was a successful great day.
The next day a Article was published in "The Salem Evening News" called "Candian actor accepts an award and speaks to students about his profession"..Scroll up to see the actual article writen By News Correspondent Alice Belanger and photo was done from News staff photo/Barbara Kennedy .

Canadian actor accepts an award and speaks to students about his profession
By ALICIA BELANGER News correspondent
DANVERS -- About 60 high school students gathered in the school's television studio yesterday morning to be entertained and educated by an up-and-coming Canadian actor.
Michael Mahonen, who starred in the CBS mini-series "Conspiracy of Silence" and the television program "Road to Avonlea," accepted an award from the students, answered questions and gave an inspiring talk.
Many of the students who attended are involved in television production at the school and some aspire to become actors and actresses.
Jim Lombard, the audiovisual teacher who contacted Mahonen for the visit, said he felt Mahonen was a perfect guest for the students because of his dedication and years of hard work to become what he is today.
"He is a relatively small actor making a big impact," Lombard said. "You don't have to be a Ben Affieck (to be an actor). This is what they love to do, so they do. It is not for the big bucks."
Last year, the school put together a recognition night for student talent. The program was expanded this year to recognize a professional actor who is not a big name but still has an impact on the profession. Mahonen was chosen as the recipient.
All of the student awards will be presented on May 8. However, it just so happened that Mahonen was in town this weekend hosting a benefit concert and he was happy to stop by the school to accept the award.
Mahonen was flattered by the recognition. Although he has received other awards for his acting, including a Gemini Award, he said this award was a significant one because it was given by students.
The students prepared for Mahonen's visit by watching clips of his'work last week. After Mahonen spoke, the students were able to ask him questions about what it is like to be in the movies, on television and on the stage. After visiting the high school, Lombard and the students took Mahonen out to lunch at the Sylvan Street Grille.
